It’s a nice quite park totally rebuilt in 2005. The trail we went on was very nice very wide, the entire family walked side by side but instead of bringing you out in the park it ended on a paved road. The camp site was flat and services good 20/30/50 amp. The spot we were in was handicap and oversized on everything and made it very comfortable. Shade was more than adequate, something you would only get in a mature forest. The site even had an extra parking spot. The bathhouse was very clean and roomy. The inter camp loop was good for bike riding and we didn’t worry about the kids riding by themselves, as you could see most of the loop. The location is great if you want to play in Eureka, only 20 minute drive.  You’re close enough to the water to go fishing, but after that rain I didn’t bother trying. The office had most everything you would forget, batteries, ice ect. Cell Phone range is like Devils Den, signal at the top of the hill, none at the campsite.

The park road is only supposed to be local traffic only, but with the frequency and speed folks drove on it, I would say it was a short cut for most of locals in that area.  If I were the State Parks Department, I would call my local State Trooper to issue speeding tickets and discourage locals using it as a hi speed shortcut. If they cut down speeding traffic, it would have been a great bicycle spot.  They have a nice pool and playground, but it’s a long walk away down the same speedway road. The only thing really disappointing was they didn’t finish the sites, they left a lot of clay and big flint rocks where they dug the sites utilities in.

Overall on the Caselman Family camping scale I would rate it a 6 with Devils Den being a 7.
I think if you were a couple looking for a quite get-a-way weekend it would rate an 8.

Location: Excellent, easy to get to and close to activities in Eureka, a Wal-Mart only 10 minutes away in Huntsville.

RV site: Good, large, clean, full hookups W/S/E 20/30/50

Bathhouse: Excellent, very clean, heated large showers.

Over all Amenities: Okay, not a lot of trails, the pool, and playground are down a road that is too busy. Not a lot to do in the park itself.

Notes: In the cool weather it’s a good site to either rest or use as a springboard to Eureka, in the summer when the pool is open I would say it would be great little getaway for a family with kids.
